Making a tileable image in PS fast

Posted on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 in Other by Nick

Know that image up in the header of our site? Thats a tiled image and a portion of the Mac OS X background. Today, I’ll show you how to tile a image real quick and easy to achive something like that.

Step 1.

You need to get your self an large image, something like nature or in this case, the Mac OS X background. Then use the Marquee tool to create a fixed rectangle 100px by 100px of an area in the picture you like and crop. Blow the canvas up too 300px by 300px. Now create guidelines to border the image.

Step 2

Delete the whitespace so all you get is a transparent background and the image. It should still be one layer

Step 3

Duplicate the image 4 times and place the above, below, left, and right of the image on the guidelines. Merge all the layers and then use the Spot Healing tool to heal the edges on the middle image (the original).

Step 4

Get out your Marquee tool again and put it in the middle box (the original image). Crop and do some final touch ups. Now you have a quick and easy tileable image in less than 3 minutes.
