Apple WWDC 2010

The annual Apple event is back today. Here is a list of what was shown. (Thanks to MacRumors for the live feed and images)

New Games/Apps:

  • Netflix:
    • Stop and Pause from any device
    • all the Netflix.com functionality, instant queue, recommendations, etc
    • http adaptive bit-rate technology utilized in Netflix app to seamlessly switch between networks “even on the go.”
    • 3G not announced
  • Farmville:
    • client the same as the Facebook version
    • optimized for touch screen
    • push notifications
    • all facebook friends can be access in game as if it was in facebook
    • Comes out at the end of June
  • Guitar Hero:
    • 3d rockstars and fully customizable
    • Queen and Rolling Stones and new artists such as Rise Against
    • Similar to classic one
    • tapping mechanics
    • multi touch display
    • level rock rank
    • Out today for 2.99
  • iMovie:
    • edit with themes, transitions, and titles
    • can record directly in to timeline or choose clips and photos from device
    • pinching changes scale of timeline
    • music can be added from itunes
    • easily switch themes and use geolocation
    • can export to 360p, 520p, 720p
    • all from phone and looks professionally done
    • 4.99
  • FaceTime:
    • quality looks great
    • a little lag
    • video and audio quality great
    • iphone to iphone
    • called facetime
    • cameras used
    • Based on many open standards, h.264, AAC, SIP, STUN, TURN, ICE, RTP, SRTP, Apple going to standards body tomorrow to make FaceTime an open industry standard.

New to OS4:

  • unified inbox and threading mail
  • Multitasking
    • you can control apps in multitasking bar by swiping left or right
  • added bing as a 3rd search option; google is default
  • ibooks with os4 for the iphone

iAds

  • looks like admob
  • keeps users in the app
  • built into os4
  • 60:40
  • Nissan, Citi, Unilever, AT&T, Chanel, GE, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Campbell’s Soup, Sears, JCPenny, Target, Best Buy, DirecTV, TBS, Disney and Geico all signed up for iAds.

New iPhone 4:

  • biggest leap since the original iphone
  • iPhone 4
  • 100+ new features
  • all new design
  • glass on front and rear with stainless steel running around the side
  • really thin
  • 9.3mm thick, 24% thinner than the current
  • external buttons, volume up/down, mute, front facing camera
  • micro-sim tray
  • camera with LED flash on back
  • bottom has mic, 30 pin connector, and speaker
  • top has headphone jack, second mic for noise cancellation and sleep/wake button
  • one side has bluetooth, wifi, gps band on one side
  • umts and gsm on the other
  • uses stainless steel for strength, use glass for optical quality and scratch resistance
  • retina display
  • increased pixel density (4x space)
  • 326 ppi
  • 300 ppi is limit of human retina when help 10 – 12 inches awawy from eye3.5 display
  • 960 x 640
  • 326 ppi. 800:1 contrast ratio also 4x better than 3GS. Uses IPS technology for superb color and wide viewing angle

  • Price and availability, comes in two colors white and black just like spy shots.
